Upton Discusses Infrastructure With White House Chief Of Staff

Congressman Fred Upton is feeling enthusiastic about an infrastructure plan following a meeting last week with White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain last week. Upton tells WSJM News he and several members of the Problem Solvers Caucus discussed with Klain what it will take to get a bipartisan plan approved. “It was a bipartisan meeting,” Upton said. “We had eight members of Congress, four Republicans and four Democrats. We talked about bipartisanship, what it should have, and the importance of trying to get something done in a bipartisan way that sets the stage for the next number of months.”

Upton Pushing Legislation To Address PFAS Contamination

April 18, 2021 Legislation that would direct the Environmental Protection Agency to take action on PFAS in water supplies has been re-introduced in the U.S. House by Congressman Fred Upton and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell. Upton said this week the PFAS Action Act would establish a national drinking water standard for PFAS, require the EPA to list PFAS contaminated sites for clean-up under the Clean Water Act, and set deadlines for the EPA to act. “What this legislation intends to do is get the EPA on our side,” Upton said. “We need a partner. We need a partner who can battle this, to identify those hotspots, and work with companies across the nation to inform consumers.”

Upton Urges Everyone To Get Vaccinated

April 15, 2021 If you ask Congressman Fred Upton, the Biden administration should send more COVID-19 vaccine doses to Michigan. He and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell have sent a letter to the administration asking for just that. Upton tells WSJM News it makes sense to give Michigan more. “Despite having 10% of the cases nationally, we’re getting less than 2% of the vaccines,” Upton said. Upton says the Biden administration’s response has not been good. However, the news isn’t all bad. “They’ve still made the commitment that every American is going to be able to get the vaccine. We want that to be true, but we also want it to be as fast as we can to try and blunt an increase.”
