Dr. John Craft will present the plan to the Board of Trustees during Tuesday night s regularly scheduled board meeting. The proposal offers to increase pay by 3.5% for all employees beginning July 1, the district said.

Baylor law professor to tackle KISD diversity issues

A Baylor School of Law professor visited the Killeen Independent School District school board last week to provide an update on the district’s newly founded Diversity and Inclusion Committee’s plans for the future. KISD Superintendent John Craft told the board at its April 27 meeting that he is particularly excited about the committee’s work. “We will continue to become even more diverse as we grow, but there is always room for improvement,” Craft said. The new committee was created in September of 2020. In December, the board approved the committee’s request to bring on Baylor School of Law professor Connie Nichols to provide diversity and inclusion training. Last month, the committee began training with Nichols.

KISD looking to hire employees throughout the district

The Killeen Independent School District is hiring for multiple positions within the district. The district announced on its Facebook page Sunday that it is looking to hire teachers, crossing guards, custodians, counselors, nurses, plumbers, bus drivers, and more. Purser reelected, Mills joins Killeen ISD school board

PLACE 6 Newly elected Place 6 board member Cullen Mills, 37, of Killeen, will effectively replace retired longtime board member Minerva Trujillo, after he solidified his win Saturday night. Mills beat opponent Riakos “Rock” Adams by 425 votes. Mills, a 2002 Harker Heights High School graduate, is the husband of KISD employee, parent educator, Erin Mills, and owner of family business Modern Appliance in Killeen. Mills graduated from University of North Texas with a degree in business administration. Mills will join the other six board members at the upcoming May 11th board meeting. A total of 2,018 voters cast their ballots in favor of Mills, while 1,593 voted for his opponent Riakos Adams.

KISD board candidates prepare for Election Day

The Killeen Independent School District school board will have at least one new face, and maybe two, after the votes are tallied in Saturday’s school board election. In advance of Saturday’s election, the four school board candidates are wrapping up their final campaign push for votes. Candidates Riakos “Rock” Adams and Cullen Mills are facing off for the retiring school board member Minerva Trujillo’s Place 6 seat. Incumbent board president JoAnn Purser is defending the Place 7 seat against challenger Lan Carter. PLACE 7 In talking with the Herald Thursday, three-term incumbent JoAnn Purser said she is getting ready to revamp some of her campaign signage in the last 24 hours of the campaign.
