A MAN downed a so-called Devil s mixture of street valium and booze before inflicting an horrific knife and hammer attack on the former partner of his ex-girlfriend. Kevin McGourlick left his victim needing 10 stitches and 12 staples to facial injuries from the assault in Port Glasgow, with the man now left scarred for life. McGourlick, 37, targeted his victim for sending a derogatory text message about his father, who died after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease, a sheriff was told. He is today beginning a three-year prison sentence. McGourlick s lawyer, Ellen Macdonald, told Greenock Sheriff Court: On the night in question, this doesn t excuse what he did, but he had taken alcohol and valium.
