Time wins all battles, but Joey Fernandez works in cemeteries across the South to reverse some of the effects that time has on historic grave markers.
Many old monuments are streaked with a patina of grays and blacks from many years of rainfall, dirt, pollution and grime. Some monuments have also been damaged by humans or the ravages of nature.
Fernandez spends a great deal of time in cemeteries around the South, working to preserve and restore historic cemeteries through his business, Preserving our Georgia Cemeteries. The Macon, Georgia, resident is in Tuscaloosa working under a grant from the Chief Tuskaloosa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to restore four of the five Revolutionary War veterans graves in Greenwood Cemetery, one of Tuscaloosa s oldest burial places.
