The unseasonably cold winter weather that swept through last week may not have had as big an impact on Terrebonne and Lafourche as other places in the state, but it was a real danger for the most vulnerable in the community, the homeless. Early-morning temperatures Feb. 16 of 24 degrees in Houma and 23 in Thibodaux made it the coldest Mardi Gras on record in both cities, according to Weather Underground. Both Terrebonne and Lafourche law enforcement sought out those without shelter to place them in hotels for the night. In total, 14 people were housed during the below-freezing temperatures that chilled the south around Mardi Gras.
