GREEN RIVER The City of Green River is currently celebrating national Police Week, which runs May 9-15. The Green River City Council approved a proclamation at its meeting last week.
The proclamation calls for all citizens to observe this Saturday as Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor those Peace Officers who, through their courageous deeds, have lost their lives or have become disabled in the performance of duty.
Green River Chief of Police Tom Jarvie thanked his officers for their dedication to the citizens of Green River and said, “they all really care about our community.”

This week, as National Police Week continues through Saturday, the Shawnee Police Department is honoring officers who have died protecting their community as well as those who continue to serve and protect.
This week is a time to reflect and show gratitude,
“I am very proud of our Shawnee Police officers and the other law enforcement agencies in our area, Shawnee Police Chief Mason Wilson said. We honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty,” he said. “This is also a week to honor the brave men and women still working to protect and serve our communities.
Flags at half-staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day, former Rep. Kay Davis-Sturzenbecher

Flags will also be flown at half-staff statewide from sunrise until sundown on Saturday, May 15.
South Dakota traditionally recognizes Peace Officers Memorial Day on the Wednesday in Police Week.
Governor Noem also ordered flags at half-staff on Wednesday, May 12 in honor of former State Representative Kathryn “Kay” Davis-Sturzenbecher, who served as a state rep. from 1995 to 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Kay on Wednesday at St. Therese Church in Sioux Falls.

Daytona Beach, FL – We’re in the middle of National Police Week and tomorrow, (May 12) the Police Unity Tour will make its way through Daytona Beach as they travel from the Law Enforcement Memorial in Tallahassee and ending at the American Police Hall of Fame & Museum in Titusville. The 320-mile ride is to raise awareness about those officers who have died in the line of duty and money for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood, now recovered from his accident on his bicycle with a driver on March 18, 2021, will join the riders here for an Honor Stop Ceremony at 3:15 p.m. at the Daytona Beach Police Department. He’ll speak at Friday’s (May 14) Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony at the American Police Hall of Fame & Museum.
