Saline Co. adds one new death, 70 cases The Salina Journal The new death brings the county s total to 93 since the pandemic began last March. Seventy new cases were reported since Monday bringing the county s total to 5,661 cases. 195 new recoveries were added pushing the total to 3,956. Active cases also dropped from 1,738 on Monday to 1,612. Additionally, Salina Regional Health Center reports 19 hospitalizations due to COVID-19, holding steady since Monday s report.

Salina Regional Health Center to receive $3.6 Million in FEMA assistance Funds to go toward staff increases during pandemic U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kansas, announced Wednesday that Salina Regional Health Center will receive more than $3.3 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency funds to help the hospital increase staff available for emergency rooms and intensive care facilities dealing with COVID-19 cases. the Kansas Division of Emergency Management (KDEM) will receive $1.6 million in federal cost sharing to support immediate staffing and supplies. “Our hospitals and healthcare professionals remain on the front line of this pandemic,” Marshall said in a news release. “It is important that we continue to provide them the resources necessary to serve their communities, effectively treat patients, and keep staff safe.”

Texas man sent to Salina hospital after launching car

The Salina Journal A Texas man was sent to the hospital after he launched his vehicle at the intersection of K-143 highway and North Old 81 highway Friday. The Saline County Sheriff s Office said that at 5:40 p.m. a blue 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis was going east on K-143 when the driver, Michael Olalde, 26, of Balch Springs, Texas, failed to stop at the stop sign at Old 81. The sheriff s office said the vehicle left the roadway and flew into the east ditch. Olalde had a large cut to his leg and complained of possible rib damage. He was taken to Salina Regional Health Center.

Salina doctors debut heart procedure program to benefit community

The transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgery was performed on Tuesday at Salina Regional. David Battin, cardiologist at Mowery, said aortic valve disease is fairly common in older people, and this new way to replace it will benefit the community and the region. Traditionally, when the valve goes out and needs fixed . it (was) a major operation which involves an incision down the sternum, Battin said. It results in a seven- to 10-day hospitalization. Battin said the hospitalization could be longer depending on the patient and usually it results in rehabilitation afterwards, as well. This procedure involves going in to replace the aortic valve through an artery and is minimally invasive.
