The city of Santa Clarita received approximately 850 applications for its rental assistance program ahead of the program’s April 30 application deadline.
“Now we’re in the process of basically fully vetting the applications,” said Michael Villegas, the city’s preservation officer, “determining eligibility (and) getting all the landlord information that we need to be able to start putting them through the process to remit payment.”
Residents who did not apply to the city’s program can still apply for rental assistance from the state, which is offering similar supports as the city’s program, according to Villegas.
Villegas said the city is sending the state information on applicants for the city’s program “to ensure that there’s no duplication of benefits.”
Support for Israel was written across the signs and faces of approximately 100 demonstrators during a rally held on City Hall’s steps Thursday evening.
The demonstration, which was organized with the help of local community and temple leaders, was designed, according to Rabbi Mark Blazer of Temple Beth Ami, to show the attendees’ support for the United States’ ally and their opposition to any indiscriminate killing of civilians.
“We can’t let any country be attacked like that,” said Blazer. “For me, it was at the point where Israel was being attacked constantly by (missiles), and I said it’s time we spoke out. This is not a Jewish issue per se, because many of the people killed by the rockets have been Israeli Arabs.”
This summer, Santa Clarita Valley residents are slated to once again be able to join the rest of Los Angeles County at the Hollywood Bowl, after a year.
After making numerous requests for correction for failure by the County Board of Supervisors to abide by various sections of the Brown Act, the Santa Clarita Organization for Planning and the Environment was left with no option than to file a formal legal complaint.
