Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a man’s death in the Upper Hunter last night. Just after 10pm, emergency services were called to Old Scone Road and Macartney Street, Merriwa, after a motorbike rider and a pillion passenger were thrown from the bike. The rider died at the scene; he is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be aged in his 50s. The passenger – a 29-year-old man – was taken to John Hunter Hospital with minor injuries. Police set up a crime scene, and are investigating.
