TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â In a message to Florida State University students, faculty and staff, President John Thrasher encouraged those who have not yet been vaccinated to go get their vaccine in order to protect one another.
The message from President Thrasher comes the same day as Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare reopening their COVID-19 unit due to a rise in Delta variant cases in the area. I feel compelled to share with you the following advice from our local hospitals urging all eligible individuals to get the COVID-19 vaccine now, wrote President Thrasher. Itâs the best, most effective way to protect yourselves and others from getting COVID-19 and preventing hospitalization or death due to the virus.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and Capital Regional Medical Center released a joint statement Wednesday in regards to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the community.
As of July 15, there are 33,157 cases in Leon County, with a 17.2 percent case positivity rate. Additionally, 134,619 people ages 12 and up have been vaccinated, meaning 51 percent of the county has been vaccinated. The Tallahassee healthcare community is seeing a dramatic increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations in the non-vaccinated, under age 50 population, including many individuals in their 20s and 30s. Together, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and Capital Regional Medical Center currently have 47 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, which is significantly higher than last week.

Brian Welch stresses the need to get tested even if vaccinated
Welch stressed continuing to get tested for the virus even if symptoms seem mild or not even related to COVID because they are vaccinated the most severe symptoms were a stuffy head, sore throat, light cough and congestion and getting vaccinated.
But he also stressed continuing public health measures for those who decline vaccinations.
“It stresses the importance of being vaccinated and, if you’re not going to get vaccinated, you’re really putting yourself and others at risk,” he said. “If you’re not going to be vaccinated, it is extremely prudent and responsible for you to wear you’re mask in an indoor public setting.”
