Driver still in hospital after crash during police chase

By Jack R. Jordan | jack.jordan@gaflnews.com Apr 12, 2021 14 hrs ago MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Tallahassee hospital reports that a driver remains in fair condition more than a week after crashing while trying to get away from a sheriff’s deputy. Rantiez Deshad Williams, 27, of Moultrie, was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare after the crash early on the morning of Easter Sunday, April 4, according to the Georgia State Patrol. A hospital spokeswoman said Monday that fair condition means his vital signs are stable and within normal limits; he is conscious but may be uncomfortable; and indicators are favorable. The Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office said a Moultrie Police Department officer saw a white car traveling “over 100 mph” on Camilla Highway near Lakeside Church but was unable to stop him.

FSU President John Thrasher updated the university’s Board of Trustees on the proposal last week, saying a joint proposal submitted in February had been accepted, allowing for planning to move forward. The health care campus is planned for an 87-acre parcel near State Highway 79 and Phillip Griffitts Sr. Parkway, close to the Latitude Margaritaville Watersound community. The letter of intent involves the three parties planning and developing the campus to initially include an ambulatory and urgent care center, according to the release. The land is being provided by the St. Joe Company. Groundbreaking could begin sometime next year. Future development includes building an Emergency Center and 100-bed inpatient medical center offering services such as gastroenterology, urology, gynecology, cardiology and general surgery among others.
