COVID this month: Big dip in hospitalizations; nearly 50 deaths, 3,400 new cases

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Since the beginning of the month, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has claimed the lives of 47 borough residents, while nearly 3,400 confirmed cases of the disease were added to Staten Island’s total, city Health Department data shows.
And while those numbers rose, coronavirus hospitalizations here have dropped sharply from the count on April 1.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Staten Island University Hospital on Friday reported that less than 100 people were being treated at the facility for COVID-19.
Hospital officials said that the improving numbers of hospitalizations meant that they could look to close the overflow COVID treatment site that had been placed at South Beach Psychiatric Center.
It was also reported that 12 people who had been fully vaccinated in the borough had later tested positive for the virus. That’s out of more than 100,000 people here who have been fully vaccinated.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Coronavirus (COVID-19) hospitalizations in the borough continued to drop, plunging on Wednesday to its lowest level this year and down to the smallest numbers seen here since late November.
At the same time, another Staten Islander has succumbed to the disease, while 178 more coronavirus cases were added to the borough’s total, city Health Department data shows.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. On Tuesday, for the second time this week, coronavirus (COVID-19) hospitalizations in the borough dipped to the lowest level this year.
At the same time, the disease has claimed the lives of two more Staten Islanders, while 116 more confirmed coronavirus cases were added to the borough’s total, city Health Department data show.
