Suzanne Whedon, a Darien resident, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, in the Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
She had been ill for sometime with Parkinson’s Disease. She and her husband Tony Whedon had split their time between Darien and Montgomery, Vermont, where they lived most of their lives.
With degrees in Social Work and Education, Suzanne had worked as a freelance writer, adjunct writing instructor at Johnson State College, social director for the Abenaki Nation, farm worker, and Vermont homesteader. At the time of her death, she was completing a novel, part of which was published in the Massachusetts Review, and was nominated by Joyce Carol Oates for a Pushcart Prize.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Georgia teachers and other school and child care employees gained access to the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, per the latest executive order from Gov. Brian Kemp.
Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and parents of children with complex medical conditions are now also able to get the COVID-19 vaccine in Georgia under new guidelines issued last week.
“We’re really excited. We were kind of hoping to get the news a little sooner,” Glynn Academy Principal Matthew Blackstone said.
Southeast Georgia Health System has available COVID-19 vaccine appointments for residents meeting current eligibility criteria at its Brunswick and Kingsland vaccination clinics.
Health Care Access and Improvement
Elimination of $500,000 for start-up funding for FQHCs.
Addition of $500,000 in start-up grants for FQHCs in Jeff Davis and Marion counties.
Healthcare Facility Regulation
Addition of $7,454,466 to support strategic measures for stabilizing staffing in the nursing home program.
Medicaid - Aged, Blind, and Disabled
Reduction of $74,646,745 in State funds to reflect savings from the temporary FMAP increase through September 30, 2021.
Addition of $25,328,540 to provide a 10% rate increase for home and community-based service providers.
Addition of $11,932,550 to provide a 2% rate increase for skilled nursing centers.
Addition of $3,470,204 for skilled nursing centers to update the general and professional liability, property insurance, and property tax pass-through rate components to current costs.

Southeast Georgia Health System has available COVID-19 Pfizer vaccination appointments for Saturday, February 27, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., at the Brunswick Campus hospital, 2415 Parkwood Drive. Appointments can be scheduled online at sghs.org/covid-19.
Based on guidelines established by Governor Kemp on Dec. 30, 2020, individuals 65 years old and older, their caregivers, health care workers and emergency first responders are eligible to receive the vaccine.
Those receiving the vaccine must be available for a second dose 21 days later. Scheduled individuals must provide a form of identification, and should wear a shirt that provides access to their upper arm. Masks are required when
