The proposed Sanitation and Pollution Levy cannot be said to have come at the opportune time when donor inflow to fund the sanitation sector which constitutes over 80% has stopped coming due to the middle-income tag put on Ghana.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has issued out one million copies of the Maternal and Child Health Record Book (MCH Record Book) to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
The assistance is through the “Project for Improving Continuum of Care for Mothers and Children through the Introduction of combined Maternal and Child Health Record Book (MCH Record Book Project)”, one of JICA’s technical cooperation projects.
The books, estimated at about GH¢3.5 million, are to improve access to quality maternal and child health and nutrition services as the country works to contain the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare delivery.

A Research, Advocacy and Public Policy Think Tank, Known as CUTS Ghana, in partnership with Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), has commissioned a study on National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The study is aimed at understanding the issues confronting subscribers of the National Health Insurance Scheme in order to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and payment of illegal fees to health workers.
According to a letter issued by the Communication Officer at CUTS Ghana, Mr Shadrack Nii Yarboi Yartey, “the study, when completed, will produce a diagnostic report which will help develop practical steps in addressing the gaps and challenges limiting the effectiveness of the NHIS in Ghana and advocate for reforms that are aimed at addressing the identified challenges.”

The National Identification Authority says existing Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) will be phased out gradually as Ghana Card numbers officially take their place starting April 1, 2021.
Though it has not provided timelines, the authority says processes for all national identification numbers to become TINs and social security numbers are in place.
This is in response to concerns raised by persons who already have TINs and social security numbers.

Due to the reopening of Senior High Schools, some parents and students have massed up at the NHIS District Offices for registration and renewal of their old membership cards.
This has caused traffic at the District Offices, a situation, management is taking pragmatic measures to ease congestion and discomfort.
At a press briefing, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Chief Executive, Dr. Lydia Dsane-Selby decried the current situation and assured the public that the NHIS District Offices staff will extend the working hours to cater for the students’ needs.
According to her, the District Offices will work from 7 am to 7 pm on Saturday and Monday 8th March which is a public holiday.
