Farm, business groups ask Congress to restore PPP tax credit

Getty Images The IRS issued a notice that the forgiven PPP loan amounts are not deductible as it would result in a so-called double tax benefit. Hundreds of farm and business groups from the West and around the country are urging Congress to enact legislation before the end of the year that includes a technical correction addressing the tax treatment of loan forgiveness under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). As Western Growers explains, President Donald Trump in March signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act into law, which included the PPP. Congressional intent of the CARES Act was to allow for continued payroll deductibility, even for the amount forgiven under the PPP loan program.

It s Travelogue #8

It’s Travelogue #8 GAYS MILLS - Two weeks into my western trip I found myself at my old friend Mike’s house in Paso Robles, California. Mike and I have been friends “since before the Dead Sea got sick.”  Paso Robles (The pass of the oaks) is a small city on the Salinas River in San Luis Obispo County on the central coast, about half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco. And Paso Robles is somewhat of a boom town. Previously known for dry farming (wheat and barley) and beef cattle, ‘Paso’ is now surrounded by thousands of acres of wine vineyards and has become a destination for wine lovers. It is in competition with the older and more established wine country of Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino counties north of San Francisco.

Support high for food worker prioritizat

Leon Neal/stringer/Getty Images IDFA survey finds 80% of adults believe food industry workers should be prioritized in receiving coronavirus vaccine. More than four in five adults believe food workers manufacturing, retail and farm workers, among others should be made a priority when it comes to being among the first to receive the coronavirus vaccine, according to an International Dairy Food Association (IDFA) poll conducted by Morning Consult from December 4-7 among a national sample of 2,200 adults. The same poll found an estimated 71% of adults support companies and employers partnering with public health agencies at local and state levels to aid in the distribution of the coronavirus vaccine to employees.
