Then came the knock on the door of the modest mobile home she had poured equity in during the seven years she lived in a Star Valley mobile home park. The park manager said she had 30 days to move. In that moment, her life collapsed. She faced the prospect of homelessness amid the pandemic. Fortunately, she wasn’t alone. She had the Time Out Shelter. Staff at the shelter noticed that Irene “was in shock” after receiving what amounted to an eviction notice — with none of the protections people getting evicted can normally rely on, said Gwen Zorn, the CEO of the Time Out Shelter.

Specialist Britton Bommer works for the store and nominated his manager for the award as she is very accommodating to his busy schedule. “The National Guard puts the schedule out there of when I will be drilling,” Bommer said. “When I hand it in, it goes to Stephanie and she juggles the schedule.”

Star Valley Chamber of Commerce Spotlight: Alpine Market

These days, Alpine Market is sharing the Aloha Spirit. The employees walk around in Hawaiian shirts. You can buy pineapples, pineapple upside down cake and Hawaiian chicken. If it’s anything Hawaiian, it’s discounted. “Every year [with exception of 2020], we do Hawaiian days during the early spring with snow to lighten up the long dreary winter,” store manager Harold Jones told SVI Media. “We do Hawaiian days for two weeks. We have Hawaiian stuff on special. A fun little thing to lift community spirits. It’s fun.” In 2021 especially, as the world comes out of COVID winter, Alpine Market is looking to boost the community as they prepare for the grand opening of their new building. The longtime community grocery store will now be under the Broulim’s umbrella, but the name, Alpine Market, will remain on the storefront. SVHS Art students and teacher honored at State Art Symposium

◆ Sanderson, Erickson, Brog, and Dockstader honored. SVHS Art Show is May 6, 5-7 p.m. New records were set by the students in the Star Valley High School Art program and an instructor was honored as Art Teacher of the Year at the 2021 Wyoming High School Art Symposium in Casper. SVHS brought home 74 ribbons from the event that features schools of all sizes throughout the state. Callin Sanderson was honored with a record setting 21 ribbons for his work, while Taylor Erickson had 12 ribbons for 12 entries and McKayla Brog won 13 ribbons with one of her pieces making the trip to Washington D.C. where it will hang in the office of U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney from Wyoming.
