A virtual sentencing hearing for 19-year-old Jeremy Gill was held Wednesday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. Gill was arrested and charged with Strangulation of a Household Member and Domestic Battery for an incident that occurred May 17 last year at a residence in Sheridan County.
District Court Judge John Fenn accepted the terms of the plea agreement that was reached with the State and sentenced Gill to 3 to 5 years in prison for the strangulation charge, suspended in lieu of a split-sentence of 168 days of incarceration and three years of supervised probation. For the domestic battery charge, Gill was sentenced to 90 days in jail, which will run concurrent to the split-sentence for the strangulation charge. Gill was also given 168 days credit for time served and ordered to pay $460 in various court costs and fees.
One man was killed, one was injured and another is sought by police following a violent end to a holiday weekend in Las Vegas. Las Vegas police have confirmed to the Optic that 27-year-old Leroy Salazar was shot and killed Monday evening on Collins Drive, on the city’s north west side. Chief of Police Adrian Crespin said a second man was injured in the shooting. “Another person involved in the shooting was sent to UNM Hospital for his injuries,” Crespin said. LVPD is investigating a suspect in the shooting, according to Crespin. Charges had not been filed as of this writing.
A pretrial conference was held in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan Tuesday for William Ziska, who is set to stand trial next week for 12 counts of Felony Voyeurism, and one count of Sexual Exploitation of Children. Ziska was arrested and charged with the crimes for allegedly installing a video camera in the vent of a bathroom at a residence in Sheridan. The alleged criminal activity occurred between February 19 and March 22 of last year.
A motion by the defense to have a witness testify by video was denied by District Court Judge John Fenn. Fenn also ruled that all of the evidence presented by the prosecution during the week-long trial will be viewable by the public despite the graphic nature of the evidence. Prior to sentencing, the victim in the case read an impact statement that detailed the physical and emotional damage that was done by the defendant.
District Court Judge John Fenn accepted the terms and conditions of the plea agreement reached with the State and sentenced Sisco 3 to 7 years in prison for the strangulation charge, and 90 days in jail on the domestic battery charge, which will run concurrent to the prison sentence. Judge Fenn also ordered Sisco to pay $460 in various court costs and fees and $12,614 in restitution.
