NNUH in Norwich launches investigation after data breach

Picture: James Bass - Credit: Evening News © 2009 A hospital has launched an investigation after personal details of more than 30 patients were found in the street by a member of the public. On Sunday, December 13, a mother-of-three from Sprowston happened upon a wad of A4 papers on the ground, at the junction of Aylsham Road and Berners Street in Mile Cross. The 35-year-old woman, who did not wish to be named, picked up the documents and on closer inspection found the personal details of 36 different people who had attended the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) in recent weeks.

The eight GP practice sites across Norfolk and Waveney will be acting as ‘primary care hubs’ - vaccinating patients from their own practice as well as other neighbouring practices. Dr Siobhan Rowe, senior partner at the Humbleyard Practice, which includes the Cringleford, Hethersett and Mulbarton surgeries, said: “We are so excited to be starting vaccinations to protect patients from Covid-19. This has been an amazing effort from all those involved in getting ready to roll out the vaccine.”

Norwich-based company Iceni Diagnostics in £2m funding boost

Iceni Diagnostics, which is producing a test which can determine if somebody has Covid-19 within 15 minutes, has received commitments from 35 different investors, which will pump £2m into its coffers in 2021. The investment means the company, which is based at the Norwich Research Park, will be able to play a central role in the fight against Covid-19 on both sides of the Atlantic. And the boost comes as it awaits imminent results from its latest trials.

The famed keyboardist and songwriter, who lives near Diss, was at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on Tuesday to treat staff to a mini concert. Best known for his role in prog rock band, Yes, Mr Wakeman played a stirring rendition of Away in a Manger , before saluting the amazing hospital and its workers.
