We have the will but more COVID vaccines needed, Whatcom health says, urging patience

Jan. 19 Washington state may have expanded its list of who can get the COVID-19 vaccine in what s known as Phase 1B, which includes the elderly, teachers and agriculture workers but that doesn t mean it s available to all Whatcom County residents in those groups yet.
That has the Whatcom County Health Department, as well as state leaders, asking for patience amid a vaccine roll-out that has been slower than expected and bumpy. We have the will, the fire, and the ability to get everyone in Whatcom vaccinated, but we don t have the vaccines, said Cindy Hollinsworth, Communicable Disease manager for the Whatcom County Health Department, in a news release on Monday night, Jan. 18.
Erie County s numbers of new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continued to decline Wednesday, though its number of deaths due to the new coronavirus remains high.
Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper on Wednesday reported 59 new cases of COVID-19. It s the lowest daily number of new cases since Nov. 8, except for Dec. 28 (46 cases) and Jan. 4 (55 cases), which were both Mondays following holidays and susceptible to reporting lags.
Erie County has 14,425 total cases of COVID-19.
The number of county residents hospitalized with COVID-19 dropped to 55 Tuesday evening, a decline of six from the previous evening, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The county s 14-day moving average of daily COVID-19 hospitalizations declined to 70.8, from a high of 122.6 patients on Dec. 18.

State of Florida is in its fourteenth week of vaccine distribution and
is continuing to increase vaccine access statewide.
Governor DeSantis issued Executive Order 21-67 to expand eligibility for
Sarasota County will roll out its long anticipated new vaccine appointment system Wednesday, according to County Commissioner Christian Ziegler.
The new system will allow residents 65 and older to either call in or use a mobile app or a computer to register for a spot to receive the COVID-19 vaccine when doses are available.
The county said on its website that it will release details Tuesday on how the new system will work.
“There’ll still be a wait, but what this does is alleviate one of the bigger frustrations,” Ziegler said Monday.
