EP Townsquare: Kids In Court? CASA of El Paso Is Here to Help
Everybody deserves to be represented in a court of law. The law itself demands it. But what about children who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in a courtroom that may decide their futures for months, or even years?
CASA – or, Court Appointed Special Advocates – volunteers represent the interests of El Paso children in court, most often family courts where parental rights might be curtailed, or even severed, for children s welfare and safety.
In court, the state gets a say. Parents get a say. But, if not for CASA, children might be left without a legal voice; and, often, it s the immediate future of children caught in the middle of less-than-desirable, or even dangerous, domestic situations that is most important.
MATTOON — The Kiwanis Club of Mattoon recently welcomed Kim Carmean, executive director of CASA of East Central Illinois, as the club’s guest speaker for a Zoom call.

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - A months-long rift between the Harrison County Youth Court and the advocacy group CASA has been resolved.
Judge Mike Dickinson swore in 24 CASA volunteers Thursday and already appointed two on cases. The others will be re-appointed to the cases they were working on in September when the dispute began.
CASA is Court Appointed Special Advocates. The organization is a non-profit, made up of staff and volunteers who review legal cases brought by Mississippi Child Protective Services. In September, the judge barred members of Harrison County CASA from his courtroom until changes were made.
