The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Edo State chapter has advised parents/guardians to keep their children and wards out of public schools on Monday, February 1, 2021, insisting that its indefinite strike still persists.
The union said the strike will still go on pending when the issues in dispute between it and the state government are favourably resolved, adding that teachers are resolute in ensuring that “freedom is now or never”.
The Edo State Government last Thursday, in a statement signed by the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie, ordered public primary school teachers and school heads to resume academic activities unfailingly on Monday, February 1, 2021 or risk forfeiture of their salaries.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State chapter on Saturday elected a new Chairman.
The association now has Damilola Simeon as its new Chairman to pilot the affairs of the association in Ogun State for the next year.
DAILY POST reports that Simeon, a student of Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Omu-Ijebu, has taken over from Tomiwa Bamgbose.
In the election, Simeon polled nine votes out of the 10 accredited senators from the 10 higher institutions present at the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta, venue of the election.
He was elected unopposed following the withdrawal of other six candidates from the contest, it was gathered.
Edo govt’s ‘no-work-no-pay’ policy empty threat – NUT

Teachers under the Edo State branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers on Friday said they would not call off their ongoing strike following a ‘no work, no pay’ policy announced by the state government ahead of the resumption of schools on February 1.
The teachers said they would not succumb to what they described an “empty threat,” as they vowed to continue with the strike until their demands were met.
The NUT had directed treachers in the state to begin an indefinite strike on January 18, following the expiration of a 21-day and 14-day ultimatums earlier issued to the state government.

The Edo State Government yesterday, took on primary school teachers in the state over the planned strike action by the teachers commencing from February 1, 2021.
The primary school teachers through their body, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state had issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Edo State Government, stating that their entitlements should be paid before resumption of schools which had remained unresolved.
Arising from this, the NUT on Wednesday, issued directives to all primary school teachers in the state asking them to shun the February 1, 2021, resumption date proposed by the state government.
In the statement, the union accused the state government of having not âdemonstrated any reasonable commitment to resolve the issues presented to it and unanimously agreed that dialogue/negotiation between it and the state government should continue while the strike persists.â
