The music video immediately sparked the fan-made #BodyOdyChallenge on social media upon its arrival alongside Meg’s debut album
Good News in November. It grew even bigger just days later when she performed the song at the American Music Awards and then joined in on the challenge herself the following morning.
In January, Meg extended the song’s life even further when she tapped “WAP” director Colin Tilley for a dance video for “Body,” separate of the track’s music video.
The 17-song
Good News debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 100,500 album-equivalent units and features from DaBaby, City Girls, Lil Durk, SZA, Popcaan, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Beyoncé (on the “Savage (Remix)”) and Young Thug. The Beyoncé-assisted “Savage” from the effort is up for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and Record of the Year at the 2021 Grammys, while Meg also scored a Best New Artist nomination as well.
Recording Industry Association Of America (
RIAA) certifies releases on the basis of sales.
Adjusting to the digital age, RIAA now equates 150 streams (on Spotify or elsewhere) to a single download/sale. A release must accrue 500,000 sales for gold certification, 1 million for platinum and 2 million for multi-platinum. Needless to say, these honors aren’t easy to come by.
Here are 10 alternative artists whose RIAA certifications might surprise you.
The 1975 – “Sex”
The 1975 have received all sorts of certifications since they dropped their debut album in 2013. One song that we didn’t expect to be top-performing was “Sex.” Despite being put forward on the band’s 2012 EP, the track paled in popularity compared to many of its album mates and following releases. As of 2019, though, it became one of four of the band’s singles to be designated gold by RIAA.
