As hospitals, insurance companies and policy makers seek to improve healthcare quality and reduce rising medical costs, one important metric used to assess clinicians hinges on how patients feel about their healthcare experience. Many healthcare providers and policy makers fear that increased pressure to please patients and ensure high satisfaction ratings as a result could lead to overuse of low-value care that doesn t provide any clinical benefit while unnecessarily ratcheting up medical bills.
But new research from the University of Chicago and Harvard Medical School may alleviate some of those concerns. The study, published May 28 in
JAMA Internal Medicine, found no relationship between favorable patient ratings and exposure to more low-value care.

Two gunmen shot and killed a man they were arguing with late Friday morning in Avalon Park on the South Side, Chicago police said.
One of the men struck the 26-year-old victim in his face, causing him to fall down at 11:40 a.m. in the 8300 block of South Stony Island Avenue, police said.
The men then opened fire and struck the man multiple times in his body.
He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and pronounced dead, police said. His name hasn’t been released.
No arrest was made.
Shootings have doubled over last year in the 4th police district, which stretches from South Shore to Hegewisch. The district has seen 69 shootings this year through May 2, up from 39 during the same period in 2020, according to police statistics.

San Francisco, May 27 : Google has collaborated with the US hospital chain HCA Healthcare to develop healthcare algorithms using patient records, the media reported.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, Google will have access to patient records from HCA, which operates 181 hospitals and more than 2,000 healthcare sites in 21 states. HCA would consolidate and store with Google data from digital health records and internet-connected medical devices under the multi-year agreement, the report said on Wednesday.

A 21-year-old man was fatally shot early Thursday just after getting into a ride-share vehicle in the South Shore neighborhood and detectives were investigating his killing as well as several unrelated shootings overnight.
