A 31 year old Macroom man has been jailed for 13 years for an unprovoked assault where he kicked and stamped on the head of a 75 year old man who spent almost a year in hospital and has now been forced to go into a nursing home as he can no longer look after himself.
Jonathan O Driscoll, with an address at Coolcower House, Macroom but originally from Dan Corkery Place in the town, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Christy O Callaghan, then aged 73, at Sleaveen East, Macroom on March 21st 2019.
This week at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, Det Garda Alan O Sullivan told how Mr O Callaghan had gone to Kinsale for a meal with his partner before he dropped her back to Blarney before heading home to Macroom when the assault happened.
