2 charged with aggravated assault after shooting at Macon homeless camp

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two men face aggravated assault charges after a shooting Thursday night at a downtown Macon homeless camp.
A Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release says investigators were in the parking lot of the sheriff’s office annex on Riverside Drive Thursday night when they heard several gun shots being fired from a nearby homeless camp.
Investigators approached the camp and noticed two men getting into a vehicle parked near the camp’s entrance. Deputies later spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Walnut Street near Spring Street.

MACON, Ga. Deputy Christopher Knight worked the overnight shift at the Bibb County jail.
His mother, Cheryl Knight, says despite the hours, he loved his job.
Knight says as a kid, her son was respectful and always had a smile. If you got to meet him, you would instantly like him, he s just the kind of person, he just had that infectious personality that you just like him immediately once you meet him, she says.
