No more arms to Israel | Morning Star

ACTIVISTS rallied outside the British HQ of Israel’s largest arms firm today in protest against the apartheid regime’s deadly attacks on Gaza that left at least 28 people dead. Nine children were among those killed in a wave of Israeli air raids on the strip on Monday night, according to Gaza health officials.  Activists in Britain responded with a rally outside the central London offices of Israeli-owned arms giant Elbit Systems, which manufactures weapons used by the Israeli military in Gaza.  Campaign group Palestine Action, which organised the Holborn protest, said that arms produced in Elbit’s British factories are used to carry out abhorrent crimes in Palestine and that campaigners refuse to allow its deadly trade to continue on British soil.

Global civil society statement on Myanmar - Myanmar

Global civil society statement on Myanmar Format We, the undersigned organizations, call on the United Nations Security Council to urgently impose a comprehensive global arms embargo on Myanmar to help prevent further violations of human rights against peaceful protesters and others opposing military rule. In recent weeks, Myanmar security forces have killed hundreds of people, including dozens of children, merely for exercising their rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. Since the February 1, 2021 coup, Myanmar’s military junta has responded with increasing brutality to nationwide protests calling for the restoration of democratic civilian rule. As of May 4, security forces have killed at least 769 people, including 51 children as young as 6, and arbitrarily detained several thousand activists, journalists, civil servants, and politicians. Hundreds have been forcibly disappeared, the authorities unwilling to provide information on their well-being or where they

Violent clashes in Jerusalem

BICOM In the UK media, the  BBC reports that dozens of people were injured during violent clashes in Jerusalem between far-right Jewish activists, Palestinians and Israeli police last night. Hundreds of ultranationalist Jews shouting “Death to Arabs” confronted Palestinian demonstrators at the city’s Damascus Gate. Tensions have been rising for several days. Guardian report that Israel’s military has acknowledged that its air defences failed to intercept a missile fired from Syria on Thursday night that traversed 125 miles of its highly protected airspace before it blew up in midair and parts landed near the Dimona nuclear reactor in the Negev desert.

London Mayor elections: Sadiq Khan pledges to kick world s largest arms fair out of capital

CAMPAIGNERS have praised a committment by London Mayor Sadiq Khan to kick the world’s largest arms fair out of the capital. The pledge, made in the mayor’s manifesto for the May 6 election, follows pressure from thousands of campaigners who emailed London mayoral candidates to demand that they oppose the Defence & Security Equipment International (DSEI) fair.  Mr Khan said he will “explore all possible options to end it being hosted in the city,” while Green mayoral candidate Sian Berry has also vowed to prevent the event from returning. The mayor’s committment backs up his calls in 2017 and 2019 for organisers to move the event out of the capital.
