Construction underway for busy Tewantin intersection

Works to fix Tewantin s busiest intersection are expected to begin in late 2021 as part of a $9.8m bypass upgrade. The intersection upgrade of Cooroy-Noosa Road and Beckmans Road will include a new two-lane roundabout to improve traffic flow, particularly during peak periods. Noosa Council is delivering the project with the Department of Transport and Main Roads as part of the $400 million road stimulus package funded by the Queensland Government to supercharge the State s economy through the COVID-19 recovery. Earlier this month, Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart said the design work had identified the alignment of the junction between the two roads, allowing vegetation clearing and relocation of energy and water infrastructure to start.

Coast traffic choke point in queue for major overhaul

A well-worn stretch of Coast road has finally received attention from the State Government with a potential upgrade on the horizon. Busy intersections at the Buderim-Mooloolaba interchange of the Sunshine Motorway are regularly backed up as peak hour drivers negotiate the bottleneck. Traffic statistics show 20,000 vehicles a day navigate the key interchange which includes motorway off-ramps as well as Mooloolaba and Sugar Roads. The government is investigating options for upgrades with $1.2 million to go towards looking at a number of congestion-busting solutions . Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said congestion was not uncommon at the interchange. Work needs to be done to unlock this critical link and improve efficiency and traffic flow for Sunshine Coast commuters, he said.
