“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal fire in the wooded area near 60th Street and JFK Boulevard East in West New York that occurred earlier this morning. More information to follow,” the HCPO tweeted this morning.
At 1:16 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released more information.
This morning at approximately 1:25 a.m., members of the West New York Police Department reported a brush fire behind the West New York Swim Club in the area of
60th Street, Boulevard East and Anthony M. Defino Way, Suarez said in a statement.

A body was recovered after a brushfire in West New York, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
On April 7, at approximately 1:25 a.m., members of the West New York Police Department reported a brushfire behind the West New York Swim Club in the area of 60th Street, JFK Boulevard East and Anthony M. Defino Way.
The North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Department extinguished the fire. After it was placed under control, investigators found the burned remains of a human who has not yet been identified.

According to Sutherland, Lower Township Police received a 911 call at Sun Outdoor Campground, on Route 9 in Erma. When officers arrived they found an unresponsive three-year-old girl who had fallen into a septic sewer tank. She had been pulled out before police arrived.

The girl was rushed to Cape Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead later in the night.
Sutherland says an autopsy was conducted Sunday morning at the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Official cause of death has not been released, pending the final completion of the autopsy report.
According to Sutherland, The preliminary investigation has not revealed any signs of foul play at the time of this press release. Prosecutor Sutherland stated this tragic incident is still under investigation but appears to be an accident at this time.

Fatal shooting in Bayonne marks second homicide in a week

A man was shot and killed in Bayonne on March 6, marking the second homicide in under a week. On March 3, Mathew Mortimer was fatally stabbed on Ave. C between 53rd and 54th Streets.
Under investigation
On Saturday, March 6 at approximately 11:15 p.m., the Bayonne Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of East 49th Street and Avenue E in Bayonne.
Police Officers found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as Anthony Alvarado, 27, of Bayonne, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at approximately 11:59 p.m.
