MADISON HEIGHTS Big changes are planned for the property around the Madison Heights Public Library, thanks to a new grant that the city has received from a national nonprofit.
The “Play Everywhere” grant was awarded to Madison Heights by KABOOM!, a group that describes its mission as ending “play space inequity.” The grant was awarded in cooperation with the Built to Play initiative, supported by the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, as the grand prize for the Play Everywhere Design Challenge, where a total of $1 million was awarded to projects across southeast Michigan and western New York.

“Our community is fortunate to have numerous volunteer organizations working for the betterment of the community and for those less fortunate,” said Oswald. “One organization that has captured the spirit of what it means to be a citizen of Carlinville is ‘Make Carlinville Beautiful.’ What started as a way for a family to grieve the loss of their son has since grown into a community-wide effort to beautify Carlinville and serves as an example for how small, rural communities can make a difference.”
Through its mission of “beautification with a purpose,” Make Carlinville Beautiful aims to recreate and restore pollinator habitats while making Carlinville more beautiful.
