Holyoke schools set graduation dates

HOLYOKE – The city’s public school system has set dates for high school graduations and senior year events.
Acting Superintendent Anthony Soto updated the School Committee Monday on graduation and senior events for May and June.
A majority of staff and students favored separate graduations for the Holyoke High School North and Dean Campuses. Both schools formed graduation task forces, which comprise students, teachers, parents, school district and health officials.
The North Campus graduation occurs Sunday, June 6 at 1 p.m., with Class Day scheduled for June 4. Cap and Gown Day is May 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Councilors will weigh the vote at Tuesday night s meeting.
In a letter to Warren, Superintendent of Schools Robert Tremblay said that more than 26% of Framingham students enter kindergarten with no preschool experience. It amounts to 175 or more children each year. The lack of access to high-quality, affordable preschool programs continues to be the underlying reason for this increase, wrote Tremblay.
Chairman George King said it means that too many of our children start out behind and consequently, too many never catch up, saying the center would give every 4-year old the opportunity to succeed. Investing in high-quality early childhood education gives all kids the start they need to succeed. With early childhood education, our children will be better prepared for success, wrote King in his own letter to Warren, Clark and Markey.

On Tuesday, April 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Revere Public Schools (RPS) will host a “Virtual Community Visioning Workshop” that will focus on setting educational and architectural priorities for the new Revere High School project.
According to RPS Superintendent Dr. Dianne Kelly, the two-hour workshop is designed to “capture community members’ thinking about their priorities, aspirations and concerns with regard to the design of a renovated and/or new High School facility and campus.”
Kelly said the workshop will take place on Zoom and is designed to be highly participatory, engaging, and informative.
