A Left worker who was wounded in a police lathi charge during their Nabanna Abhiyan protest rally last week has died in a hospital on Monday morning.
Maidual Islam Middya, who hailed from Bankura district in the south-western part of the state, was injured on February 12 when Left student and youth activists took out a march to the state secretariat of Nabanna to protest the lack of employment generation opportunities during Mamata Banerjee s regime.

Kolkata: Kolkata Police on Thursday resorted to lathi-charge, firing of tear gas shells and water cannons trying to disperse an agitation of Leftist youth workers when they were marching to the state secretariat in protest as part of Nabanna Abhiyan. Several agitators, including women, suffered bleeding injuries.

They stage protest at MANSAS Trust office
Lecturers, non-teaching staff of Maharaja Autonomous College staged a protest separately at MANSAS Trust office on Monday, asking the management to pay their salary dues immediately.
They alleged that the management failed to clear the dues for the last eight months despite their protests. As many as 50 lecturers and non-teaching employees raised slogans against the Trust, saying that they were leading a pathetic life due to inordinate delay in payment of salaries.
They tried in vain to meet MANSAS Chairperson Sanchaita Gajapathi Raju and correspondent K.V.L. Raju to air their grievances.

Farmer staged protests in different parts of Tiruchi, Perambalur, Pudukkotai and Thanjavur districts on Saturday.
A group of farmers led by P.Ayyakannu, president of Desiya Thennindiya Nathigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam, blocked the traffic at Salai Road-Sastri Road junction here. Some of them carried ploughs. They raised slogans against the Centre. The police detained 54 persons. The protest disrupted the traffic for about 45 minutes.
Twenty farmers were taken into custody when they staged a road roko at Manaparai. V. Chidambaram, district secretary, Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, led the protest. Terming the farm laws anti-farmers, they urged the Centre to withdraw them immediately.
