Former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs will go on trial next year accused of deliberately headbutting his ex-girlfriend and controlling her throughout their relationship.
The Wales manager, 47, denies assaulting 36-year-old PR executive Kate Greville at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on November 1, and then hitting her younger sister, Emma, during the same alleged incident.
Giggs has also been charged with controlling and coercive behaviour over his relationship with Ms Greville, with prosecutors alleging the abuse lasted almost three years.
Today s hearing at Manchester Crown Court s plea and trial preparation session was told that he will go on trial at on January 24.

Ryan Giggs to go on trial in January over ex-girlfriend assault charge

Ryan Giggs will face a trial of up to three weeks in January 2022 on charges that he head butted his then girlfriend and subjected her to nearly three years of “coercive and controlling” behaviour.
Giggs, Manchester United’s record appearance-maker and a 13-time Premier League champion, is accused of assaulting Kate Greville, and a further charge relating to his alleged pattern of behaviour towards her from December 2017 to November 2020.
Another charge relates to an alleged assault by the Wales national team manager on her younger sister, Emma.
