MARQUETTE The Marquette County Health Department announced Friday that staff members will be contacting residents who are on the COVID-19 vaccine pre-registration list beginning on Monday and Tuesday for vaccine appointments on Thursday.
MCHD said approximately 1,000 appointment slots will be available for this round of vaccinations. Staff will contact registrants based on their placement on the list, using both online and phone registrations.
Those who are registered are asked to pay attention for a phone call from 906-475-9977 or similar on Monday or Tuesday. A staff member will make two attempts to contact you. If you happen to miss the first call, a message will be left to prepare you for the second call. Should you miss both calls, your name will remain on the list for the next round of an appointments.

MARQUETTE Marquette Area Public Schools still is dealing with the impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on students’ education.
At the Monday MAPS Board of Education meeting, Marquette Senior High School Principal Jon Young gave an update on recent academic progress.
“On a four-year average, we typically have about 106 students that fail a class of some sort,” said Young, who noted that makes up 11% of the student population.
Earlier in the 2020-21 school year, Young shared data that indicated that 51% of online students were failing one or more classes, with 16% of in-person students failing one or more classes.

MARQUETTE Although the Ishpeming Ski Club postponed the 134th Annual Ski Jumping Tournament on Jan. 21, it still plans to hold the event, and is even conducting a fundraising campaign to make up for financial losses.
Since that original announcement, the club which rescheduled the tournament for March 6-7 has developed a comprehensive plan to host a junior tournament, making the safety of athletes, their families, club staff and the community its top priority during the COVID-19 pandemic.
