The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 238 new cases of COVID-19 and nine coronavirus-related deaths Saturday. Since the virus hit the state in March 2020, a total of 307,332 cases and 7,095 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.  According to a New York Times database Saturday, at least 956 new coronavirus deaths and 81,769 new cases were reported in the U.S. Over the past week, there has been an average of 67,923 cases per day, an increase of 12% from the average two weeks earlier. There were 15 outbreaks at Mississippi nursing homes as of Saturday. There have been 10,439 cases of the coronavirus in long-term care facilities and 1,973 deaths reported as of Saturday, according to the latest figures available.
