KUALA LUMPUR: Drug trafficking syndicates have been detected switching to courier services to continue their activities during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), since last year. Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) director Datuk Razarudin Husain said the use of the new tactic showed a significant increase, with traffickers hiding drugs in essential items and basic necessities. “Last year, the police busted a drug trafficking syndicate using courier services involving 84 cases and made 103 arrests while for this year it involved five cases and four arrests,“ he said in a statement today.

Property market likely to see recovery only in 2022, says Rahim & Co

The local property market is expected to be soft this year and likely to see a further delay in recovery to 2022, according to Rahim & Co in its Property Market Review 2020/2021. While there is optimism that the turning point will be in the latter part of 2021 with the vaccine about to be mobilised, a further delay in recovery to 2022 would not be a surprise with the recent resurgence of Covid-19 cases and reimplementation of lockdowns, it said. “We expect the residential market to remain focused on the affordable segment as overhang is still a concern. Secondary sales are expected to dominate the market with price consolidation, and the Home Ownership Campaign 2021 will give the market a boost,” said research director Sulaiman Saheh during a virtual press conference on Jan 26.

Industrial property sector remains most resilient, says CBRE | WTW

While patronage-reliant property sectors such as hotel and purpose-built retail were severely battered by the Covid-19 pandemic, the industrial sector continues to be the bright spot in the otherwise gloomy real estate market, said CBRE | WTW group managing director Foo Gee Jen during the virtual press launch of the property consultancy’s Real Estate Market Outlook 2021 report, titled “Restart the Uneven Recovery”, on Jan 25. According to Foo, regional logistics and warehousing will be a primary prospect for the sector in the long term. “The growing demand for last-mile delivery facilities is in line with the expansion of e-commerce and the expectations of an increasingly sophisticated market,” he said.
