WA Opposition Leader Zak Kirkup to leave politics if he loses seat

Western Australian Opposition Leader Zak Kirkup has announced he will likely abandon his political career if he loses his seat at Saturday s election. Mr Kirkup, 34, holds Dawesville by just 300 votes, making it the second-most marginal Liberal seat in Western Australia. Speaking to the ABC last night, the Liberal leader said if he isn t reelected he will consider it his time to leave. Man arrested over attack on Mark McGowan s electorate office

Police have arrested a man in relation to a suspicious package which was thrown into the electorate office of West Australian Premier Mark McGowan - leading to an evacuation onto the street in Rockingham. A 67-year-old man was arrested in Rockingham last night and is assisting police with their inquires in relation to the suspicious package containing white powder which was thrown into the premier’s office. Staff were evacuated from the office and surrounding buildings while emergency services, including officers in hazmat suits, cordoned off the street. A similar incident also occurred at federal Brand MP Madeleine King’s electoral office where a suspicious package was found. Mr McGowan was not in his office when the incident occurred, but he took to social media and said, “as with all forms of violence and threats, this kind of behaviour has no place in our society”.
