Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain today called upon lawyers to take Covid-19 vaccine. We, the judges, have taken coronavirus vaccine and we are doing well. You, lawyers, please, get vaccinated immediately and stay well, the chief justice said while virtually presiding over a four-member bench of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
During hearing a case, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain told former secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon that he (Khokon) was elected SCBA secretary seven times and if he takes vaccine, other lawyers will take the vaccine too.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today halted the High Court bail for four accused in two separate cases filed over the killing of 26 Bangladeshis in Libya in May last year.
The four accused are Flyover Tours and Travels Ltd owners Sheikh Md Mahbubur Rahman, Sheikh Shahidur Rahman, Kauser Munshi and Mahbub Munshi.
The cases were filed with Paltan Police Station against the accused for their alleged involvement with trafficking a number of people to Libya, including the 26 who were killed on May 28, 2020.
SC clears way to shut down illegal brick kilns in Chattogram

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld until further orders a High Court directive that asked the government to shut down all illegal brick kilns with no valid license in Chattogram.
Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Nuruzzaman on Thursday refused to stay the HC order.
The apex court s chamber judge sent the appeal, filed by 18 owners of 23 brick kilns challenging the HC order to its full bench and fixed August 29 for hearing the appeal.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today stayed for four weeks the High Court verdict that upheld the bail of Rashedul Haque Chisty, son of the former chairman of Farmers Bank audit committee Mahbubul Haque Chisty, in a money laundering case involving Tk 159 crore.
The apex court also asked the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to file a leave to appeal petition with the court against the HC verdict in four weeks.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the ACC, seeking stay on the HC judgement.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today extended till July 13 its chamber judge s order that stayed the High Court verdict for including Mohalladars and Dofadars of the village police to grades concerned of the national time scale and for paying their due salaries.
The apex court also allowed the state to move an appeal before it on July 13 against the HC verdict.
The state has been directed to submit a concise statement mentioning the points of argument on the appeal to the court in eight weeks.
