He was addressing reporters here at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital after kick-starting the dry run for vaccination which is being simultaneously held at 17 centres across the state from Saturday.

By afternoon, the drill was completed for 27 persons, Therani Rajan, Dean of the Hospital and Madras Medical College, told IANS. According to Rajan, the drill included arrival of persons for vaccination, their seating in waiting hall, and checking of their details by officials concerned. ‘COVID-19 vaccination in India: Chennai hospital has conducted COVID-19 vaccination drill.’ They were then moved to another room, where their identities were cross-checked and details uploaded on Co-WIN app. Thereafter, the persons were vaccinated and information uploaded.

When timely care saved two COVID-19 patients at RGGGH

Both developed pneumothorax, which causes lung collapse With pneumothorax being one of the complications in COVID-19, timely intervention by doctors saved two patients at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH). One of them, a 45-year-old man, was discharged from the hospital after 103 days of treatment, while the other, a 37-year-old man, returned home after undergoing treatment for 95 days. According to a press release, the 45-year-old was admitted with symptoms of COVID-19 fever, cough and breathlessness on September 18. RT-PCR test confirmed that his infection and a CT scan showed 95% lung involvement. He spent 62 days in the intensive care unit and required oxygen support for 40 days. During the course of his treatment, doctors found that he had pneumothorax collapsed lung due to leakage of air into the pleural space and an intercostal drain was performed.
