Neighbors react to 10-year-old boy dying after being shot in Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. It was at a home on Tobin Lane in Edwardsville that the Luzerne County District Attorney says a 10-year-old boy was shot.
It happened around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Luzerne County Coroner says the boy was shot in the upper torso and was pronounced dead at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Neighbors on Tobin Lane say they saw a lot of police outside the home around that time.
A Rice Twp. couple was arrested Thursday on charges alleging they starved a 6-year-old boy so severely that he weighed only 20 pounds when he appeared at Greater Nanticoke Area Elementary Center one day last year.
Zachary Michael Vincent, 30, and his wife, Natalie M. Shaffer, 26, both of 155 Pine View Dr., were jailed without bail on felony assault charges following an arraignment by Magisterial District Judge Donald L. Whittaker.
According to the complaints filed by Luzerne County detectives, police began investigating the case in January 2020 after the starving child â who is Shafferâs son and Vincentâs stepson â showed up at the Nanticoke school.

The child, who was not identified, was shot at a home on Tobin Lane shortly before 9:30 p.m. and was rushed to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy Dr. Gary Ross conducted Thursday determined the boy died of a single gunshot wound.
The manner of death was pending further investigation.
Authorities said they are working to determine whether the shooting was the result of an accidental discharge.
Edwardsville police and the Luzerne County District Attorneyâs Office are investigating the shooting, with assistance from the Pennsylvania State Police Forensic Services Unit.

The boy, who has not been publicly named, was shot while jumping on a couch at a home on Tobin Lane around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.
Someone was clearing the chamber of a gun nearby when the weapon accidentally discharged, shooting the boy, prosecutors said.
The boy was rushed to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The weapon was sent to the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab for testing.
No charges had been filed as of Friday. Prosecutors said the investigation was ongoing.
The triple shooting in Plains Twp. motivated by a dispute about snow removal will be officially ruled a murder-suicide, according to the Luzerne County District Attorney s Office.
Authorities said Jeffrey Spaide, 47, of 6 W. Bergh St., shot and killed his neighbors, James Goy, 50, and his wife Lisa Goy, 48, on Monday morning as they were shoveling snow outside their home at 13 W. Bergh St. Spaide then killed himself as police arrived on scene, prosecutors said.
After a review of the case, District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis said Tuesday she will direct the investigation to be closed.
Prosecutors said officers were dispatched to West Bergh Street shortly before 9 a.m. Monday to a report of shots fired.
