Dover Area School District wants to petition courts to delay Washington Twp. secession one year

Dover Area School District officials said Tuesday they want to petition state courts to delay the secession of Washington Township for one year following news of major budget cuts linked to the transition.
At a Dover school board meeting Tuesday night, board President Nathan Eifert said district leaders will meet with Northern York County School District officials on Wednesday to discuss a petition. Eifert said there are several unresolved issues that will take a long time to solve, and the current schedule makes the process needlessly challenging.
Newberry Elementary closed Friday due to COVID-19
Newberry Elementary School is closed today after recording two recent COVID-19 cases.
Two cases within 14 days is enough to warrant a three-day closure at a small school, according to state guidance. The school should reopen for students on Monday, according to West Shore School District officials.
The West Shore School District has recorded 11 cases across the district within the past 14 days, including the Newberry cases, according to its dashboard. The remaining nine cases are spread across the district s 13 other schools, and none have enough cases to reach another closure.

Central York School District announced Tuesday that its middle school is closed for one week following a surge of COVID-19 cases.
The school is closed Tuesday through Monday and will reopen next Tuesday, March 16, according an announcement on the district s website. Students will be taught under a fully remote model during the closure.
At Monday night s school board meeting, a district official said Central York recorded eight COVID-19 cases across two buildings that day. That doubled the total number of cases recorded across the district and marked the most significant surge of COVID-19 cases the district has recorded in a single day.
Schools in Spring Grove, Northern York County closed Monday due to COVID-19

Three Spring Grove Area School District buildings and one Northern York County School District building were closed Monday due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases.
Spring Grove Area High School, Spring Grove Elementary and Paradise Elementary are closed after recording 14 COVID-19 cases across the three buildings in the last 14 days as of Friday afternoon, according to Spring Grove s website.
South Mountain Elementary in Northern York County also closed after recording three cases in the last 14 days, according to a district communication Friday.
All four schools will reopen Tuesday, as the weekend counted as two days toward the three-day closure mandated by state guidelines. All other schools in both districts remain open for in-person instruction.
William Penn Senior High School closed Friday for deep cleaning
William Penn Senior High School is Friday for a deep cleaning, according to a district announcement.
York City School District officials announced the closure on the district website, and did not mention if the school would reopen Monday. According to the district s COVID-19 dashboard, the high school has recorded just one COVID-19 case in the last 14 days.
Two other district schools, STEAM Academy and McKinley K-8, have also recorded one case each in the last 14 days, but both schools remain open.
York County has recorded 36,136 total COVID-19 cases and 728 deaths since the outbreak began as of Thursday.
