Cape Town - A 41-year-old gun dealer from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, who appeared at the Worcester Magistrateâs Court on 61 charges, including the selling of guns to criminal gangs in the Western Cape had his case postponed.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said other charges against Anderson Padayachee included eight counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder, fraud and money laundering.
Ntabazalila said senior state advocate Christian de Jongh from the director of public prosecutions would be prosecuting the matter.
Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said a Cape Town team from the Hawksâ national bureau for illegal firearms control and priority violent crime, together with a special task force team in Durban, crime intelligence and metro police from Durban arrested the gun shop owner on Thursday.
DENIALS: Mohammed Hassan. Photo: James Connell A PARKING row turned ugly when a man grabbed a hammer and made death threats, a court was told. Hassan Mohammed appeared before magistrates in Worcester where he pleaded not guilty to three offences following an incident in Teme Road, Worcester. The 28-year-old of Winchcombe Drive, Warndon, Worcester denied possession of an offensive weapon, assault by beating and a section four public order offence, all of which are alleged to have occurred on June 23 last year. Karen Wright, prosecuting, said: There’s an issue with regard to parking a car and an argument between people in the street and it’s said that the defendant went to get the hammer out of a black Mercedes vehicle, pulled it out of the boot and said ‘I’m going to kill you!’”
A TEARAWAY teen who spits at people and a potty-mouthed pest who keeps dialling 999 are just some of the Worcester rogues put on a tighter leash. Last year was a bumper year for criminal behaviour orders (CBOs) despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. This year is following in the same vein after a 17-year-old lout who likes to spit at people and throw stones and eggs at them was made subject to one of the first CBOs of the year. The draconian orders give the courts greater powers to jail repeat offenders where other forms of punishment and rehabilitation have failed to keep them on the straight and narrow.
