United Nations, May 17 : As tensions between Israeli troops and Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip were continuing unabated, the UN Security Council (UNSC) has called for an immediate end to the bloodshed.
In his opening remarks during Sunday s open debate of the Council, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the conflict as utterly appalling , calling for an immediate end to it, reports Xinhua news agency.
While Arab League members maintain Palestinians should have their own state, recent relations forged between Gulf states and Jerusalem, as well as concerns over the Islamist Hamas has lead to a somewhat-muted response to Israel's attacks compared to past conflicts
