House committee approves proposed quarterly payment of senior citizens’ pension
A House of Representatives panel has approved a proposed measure for the quarterly distribution of pension to indigent senior citizens instead of every six months. In its hearing on Thursday, the House special committee on senior citizens approved House Resolution 1047, which will change the release schedule for the P500 per month pension for every senior beneficiary. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) handles the fund distribution. House Deputy Speaker Rufus B. Rodriguez, who filed the resolution, said the semi-annual schedule is “too long,” especially with the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. “A six months wait, and they’re indigent too, is certainly not the proper way to be of help to our senior citizens,” he said in the hearing. MALACAÑANG ON Wednesday welcomed the proposal of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to allow the deployment of thousands of healthcare workers, mostly nurses, in the United Kingdom and Germany in exchange for Covid-19 vaccines.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said while the government has already ordered enough Covid-19 vaccine supply for its people, “more is better than less.”
However, he clarified that Duterte was not consulted about the plan to send healthcare workers if the two European nations agreed to donate Covid-19 vaccines.
He said the proposal was made by Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr.

Identified as missing is 24-year-old Jerlyn Isah Quisumbing, who works for the Danish-flagged freighter Santa Clara.
“We are still in positive [spirit] that our child is still alive,” said Richard Quisumbing, Jerlyn’s father.
“But we are also in a hurry that they will find her. Maybe she’s in a hospital somewhere,” Richard told Manila Bulletin in an interview Friday, February 12.
Jerlyn’s mother Rossana said they were told that her daughter fell off the ship in an accident as the vessel was approaching the port of Bremerhaven, a coastal city in northern Germany.
