Narcotics case: trial against Papia, husband begins Star file photo Star Digital Report Star Digital Report Trial of the narcotics case filed against expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Nur Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon began at a Dhaka tribunal today with deposition of the complainant. Judge Md Amirul Islam of the Special Tribunal-8 of Dhaka recorded the statement of Md Shafiqul Islam, a sub-inspector of Rapid Action Battalion-1. The judge then set April 12 for cross-examination of the complainant on behalf of the couple. In his statement, Shafique said that being informed from a reliable source, a team led by him along with a magistrate conducted a drive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and arrested Papia, her husband and their two accomplices at 12:40pm on February 22 last year when they were trying to leave the country.

Photo: collected Star Digital Report Star Digital Report Detectives have pressed charges against photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol in a case filed with Hazaribagh Police Station under the Digital Security Act. Sub-inspector Mohammad Rassel Mollah of detective branch of police, and also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate s Court of Dhaka on Sunday. In the charge sheet, the IO said the charges brought against Kajol were primarily proved and he should be brought under trial.

File photo Star Online Report Star Online Report The High Court today started hearing on a petition of convicted war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee, challenging the lower court order that framed charges against him in a case filed for embezzling Tk 1.27 crore from Islamic Foundation s Zakat Fund. After concluding proceedings on the petition today, the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman set February 11 for resuming the hearing.   Sayedee, a Jamaat-e-Islami leader, submitted the revision petition to the HC on February 1 seeking stay on the trial proceedings of the case.
