Teen seriously hurt in south Wichita shooting Police are investigating a shooting that happened early Friday afternoon at a south Wichita apartment complex. Officers were called to the 800 block of South Hydraulic around 12:45 p.m.   Witnesses reported an argument and gunshots, and a 17-year-old boy was found with gunshot wounds to his upper body.   Police said the injuries are not considered life-threatening, but he was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Police arrested a 45-year-old man for aggravated battery.   Officer Charley Davidson said there was a disturbance in the parking lot between the suspect and the victim, who knew each other.   During the disturbance, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired several shots.

No charges filed against Sedgwick County deputy after domestic incident

The 31-year-old deputy was arrested by Wichita police on April 13th for aggravated domestic battery, criminal threat and other charges.   The allegations are the result of an incident involving an intimate partner who lives with the deputy. After an investigation by Wichita police, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office and the City of Wichita Prosecutor’s Office declined to file charges. The deputy has returned to limited duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation, which is being conducted by the Professional Standards Unit of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.    Deputies who on restricted duty during an investigation will not have contact with the public.

(AP) A detention deputy doing his regular early morning rounds discovered an inmate trying to break a hole to an outer cell window at the county jail in Wichita, authorities said Monday. The Sedgwick County Sheriff s Office said in a news release that the deputy noticed paper covering part of the window at about 2:05 a.m. Friday and instructed the inmate to remove it so he could examine the window. He found damage to the window about six inches in diameter and immediately removed the inmate from the cell.
