A Birmingham man who slapped his partner in a hotel lobby has been fined. The West Midlands man had denied assaulting a woman in the lobby of a central Bristol Travelodge on September 4 last year. Prosecutor Emma Charleton told Swindon JPs Burris and his partner had checked into the hotel on August 31. Five days later, a member of hotel staff overheard them arguing first at the rear of the hotel. He heard Burris tell the woman: “What are you still doing here? What are you going to do about it?”

RAIDING police officers found a small amount of cocaine on a Walcot man’s bedside table.
Swindon Magistrates’ Court heard officers executed a warrant at Samuel McCulloch’s home in Hunsdon Close on July 16. Prosecutor Keith Ballinger told JPs: “A small amount of drugs have been recovered by officers, I think when the officers have searched the room he uses. I think there was a small amount of white powder on a bedside table.” Interviewed by police, he said he sometimes used cocaine but as far as he was aware there were no drugs in the house. Appearing before the justices, McCulloch, 55, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine.
