Of the 15 people indicted by a Highland County grand jury Tuesday, three face child sex abuse charges and seven others face multiple counts of drug possession, trafficking and smuggling.
A case against accused child rapist Garrison M. Salyer, 25, Hillsboro, was bound over to a grand jury after he waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Hillsboro Municipal Court on April 27.
Salyer was indicted on twin charges of first-degree rape Tuesday in connection with an April 22 municipal court affidavit that accused him of the rape of a minor under the age of 10. He reportedly admitted to a counsellor that he sexually abused his then 1-year-old son on multiple occasions in 2019, with the indictment specifying that the incidents occurred between Jan. 1 and June 1, 2019.

Accused child sex offender James McCartney has been deemed competent to stand trial, according to documents filed Thursday in Highland County Common Pleas Court.
McCartney, 61, of the Rocky Fork Lake area, is charged with multiple counts of child sex offenses.
He was indicted on April 6 by a Highland County grand jury on one count of trafficking in persons, a first-degree felony, with the indictment alleging that he willingly knew the person involved was under the age of 16 and was being trafficked for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity for hire.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said that at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday his office received a call from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office advising that the Peebles Police Department was in pursuit of a black Mitsubishi Eclipse, with the driver believed to be wanted by the Hillsboro Police Department for a break-in at the East Main Sunoco in Hillsboro last Saturday.
