Mothers fail to have lawyer who withheld medical damages sequestrated

Eleven mothers who say attorney Zuko Nonxuba owes them a collective R198m have failed in their bid to have him or his wife Novelano provisionally sequestrated. The women, in separate cases, were awarded millions of rand in medical negligence damages after they proved their children had suffered severe cerebral palsy as a result of the negligence of the provincial health department.

East London lawyer Rubushe struck from roll

The Supreme Court of Appeal has ordered that East London attorney Bulelani Rubushe’s name be struck from the roll of attorneys.On Friday, the SCA set aside a Makhanda high court judgment in terms of which Rubushe was suspended from practice for just two years for his “gross overreaching and rapacious and unconscionable conduct” towards a client.
