Good afternoon, i am the chief building inspector with the department of Building Inspections brown bag lunch. We do this every third thursday of every month. This building behind me is one of San Franciscos great landmarks, a designated landmark . It is on the National Register list of historic buildings. With me i have a few guests, an old friend of mine and a partner who is a planner with the port of San Francisco. Welcome. Thank you for coming along. And jane connors, who is the building manager. She will lead us on a walk through the building as we move along and talk about that as well. This is a fund and a unique place in San Francisco, big, open space. A couple of times a week this is filled with a marketplace. 100 farmers. They are here on saturday. The Farmers Market is out front, and also on tuesdays we have about 60 farmers out front. And that is on the plaza . On saturday it is back here, and on tuesday it is in the front. I guess i am interested in what happens. We have a

Kinds of cranes around the city. We have a fixed height crane, like this, and then we have some that are climbing cranes. This is a Free Standing crane, not bolted down. About all of these big concrete waits . 160 pounds of concrete is the ballast week. Did you have to pour a Big Foundation under that . This is a construction method that we get to, we work with the contractor. We get a load from the crane manufacturer, figure out the downward load and the overturn load. We then make sure that the foundation can take that load. Also, all the anchors on the floor are adequate. Why would you do this instead of fastening it to a fixed base . This crane is not part of the foundation system, so it is out board of the structure. Basically, it is something that worked well with the courtyard and a landscaping and the irrigation outside. Slippery and the fruits themselves are rolling. We generally dont encourage fruiting trees in the right of way. There are nonfruiting trees, we ask people to consider that, if theyre interested in this tree. We have all sorts of stuff happening here. And none of it good. Does anyone know about this . Yes it is, thats an olive, for whoever doesnt have a mike. If you look across the street, you can see what this tree probably used to look like. Unfortunately, this is an example of what i described earlier, where you top the tree, you cut the top off it. A lot of times, when people see a tree there is really overpruned and you see new growth, and you see the tree is coming back, it is recovering. But actually, this is a sign of stress growth, the tree is trying to get as much leaf can nappy as it can. It is producing these sprouts. These wont be healthy or well attached to the main trunk, what they mean, if it ever gets big enough, theyre going to start breaking off and theyre going to fa
