Also on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting is a $7 million request from Mayor Dave Bronson and two Assembly members, who want the city to complete a stalled East Anchorage homeless shelter project.

Bronson’s administration says it will not pursue a plan to allow people experiencing homelessness to camp at Centennial Campground as it did last summer.

The proposed camps are meant to disperse the number of homeless residents evenly throughout the city,

The proposal would establish designated areas with basic services to campers in the absence of alternative shelter and encampments proliferating in the wake of the Sullivan Arena closure.

Assembly member Felix Rivera said this first meeting was centered around brainstorming ideas to determine the task force’s direction.
